Who Makes Ram Golf Club | Know The History

Ram Golf Corporation is one of the most established golf equipment manufacturers in the United States. The firm, based in the Chicago suburbs, began producing golf equipment in the 1940s.

Ram has been delivering high-quality golf equipment to many professional tour operators and clubs since its establishment. However, following a few purchases in the early 1990s, the brand’s club output suffered a dip.

The firm is no longer a member of the PGA Tour professional clubs. On the other hand, Ram Golf is well-known for producing one of the market’s most famous clubs.

The firm creates these clubs for leisure golfers, allowing them to profit from beginners and high handicap golfers. This post will look into Ram’s beginnings and what sets the company’s golf equipment apart from the competition.

Origin Of Ram Glof Club

Ram Golf originated as Sportman’s Golf shortly after WWII, when the Hansberger brothers — Lyle, Al, Bob, and Jim — turned a tool and die they owned on Chicago’s west side into a golf course. Before selling his firm to the Hansberger’s in 1947, the shop produced club components for another company, George MacGregor Golf.

The firm produced clubs under the Kroydon and Bristol brand names as Sportsman’s Golf. However, the firm didn’t alter its name to Ram Golf until 1967, reflecting a marketing approach that wanted a more straightforward, bolder brand to promote golf bags and club heads.

Company Debut

Sportsman’s Golf, becoming before Ram Golf, produced a wide range of high-quality clubs. The Bristol 600 Wizard putters, which were highly popular among golf pros and amateurs throughout the 1950s and 1960s, were one of the company’s hallmark line clubs.

Many top-tier players began to use the brand because of these incredible signature clubs. For example, these clubs were used by great golfer Jack Nicklaus during his best years in the 1960s.

Cutting-Edge Developments

The Wizard 600 was designed by veteran PGA golfer and famous putting expert George Low for the Sportsman and Bristol brands and was used by Jack Nicklaus during his best years in the 1960s.

Original putters were valued at more than $25,000 in 2006, making it a desirable golf collectible. Ram introduced the Ram 3D, the first cut-proof Surlyn-covered golf ball, in 1968. Ram would develop some of the first forged cavity-back irons, Accubar weighing, frequency shaft fitting, and lithium balls in subsequent years.

Sponsorships and Endorsements

Ram was sold to the Colgate-Palmolive Company for $18 million by the Hansberger’s in 1974. Ray Floyd, Gary Player, Tom Watson, and Nancy Lopez were among the 50 athletes signed to Colgate-endorsement Palmolive’s list at the time. Except for Watson’s endorsement deal, the Hansberger’s took back their firm in 1980 and dumped all endorsement contracts. They outfitted PGA players like Nick Price and Calvin Peete in the 1980s and 1990s.

The fractures began to appear in the early 1990s, despite Ram Golf continuing to function through its numerous highs and lows. The Ram Golf Club Company and Ram Tour Balls were formed from the company’s separation into two separate businesses.

While golf equipment production continues in the Chicago area, the club division was sold to Tommy Armour. TaylorMade, on the other hand, swooped in to buy Ram Tour Balls.

The Hansberger’s left after the takeover. Al’s son Gary, on the other hand, was able to establish the groundwork for Vulcan Golf in Chicago. Regardless, Tommy Armour is the Ram Golf Clubs Company owner and is in charge of its production. Other divisions of the company are now branded as subsidiaries of other businesses.

RAM golf clubs, as section-level clubs, place a premium on simplicity. For example, RAM’s trademark Sergeras irons have outperformed most other brands in terms of innovation and have one of the market’s most prominent sweet spots. The Sergeras has a fantastic border-weighted, depression-back iron with a low focal centre of gravity.

These clubs are among the best in the industry, and they make Golf more accessible to novices. In addition, they enable the player to shoot a high golf shot and a great distance with the ball.
